I was in Funan this afternoon with a friend to help him purchase his Nikon D90 kit: Unfortunately, most of the Photography shops in the building don’t have the camera in stock. We really didn’t want to leave empty handed so we checked out Canon 50D, which really felt well in my hands. The grip was perfect. The body was solid and heavy. The dials felt durable and sturdy, and I like the interface itself. Took a few snaps of the calculator at the store’s display and it looked more real and vibrant than the real thing.
If only they had a D90 that I could test.
After the experience, my Sony H1 will no longer cut it – there’s possibly no way I’ll go back to using it after the precision and control that the Canon 50D offered. Of course, this will definitely be good news for my sister (yes, i’m shipping it to her to NZ or hand it to her personally when she comes visit me). The H1 should work well in daylight to take snaps of those LOTR mountaintops. Breathtaking.
Now which model should I go for? I’m leaning towards Canon 50D but the reviews mention noisy images at ISO 3200 – meaning I won’t be satisfied with my night shots. Speaking of shots, i’d want to take (in order) : 1. Macro Shots (insects, flowers, dust, to name a few) 2. Night shots (perfect for Singapore) 3. Street “stolen” shots (Yes, I watched too much detective movies) 4. Landscape (spelled as “WIDE ANGLE”) 5. All others (Scandals and blackmail material fall into this category).
Nikkon D90 or Canon 50D? Or should I go for the Canon 500D?! I know, it’s ridiculus to choose a cam based on body but this IS going to be my FIRST DSLR. I’m also taking into consideration Lens and optional parts selections but the INSANE amount of information out there and the unending debate of Canon and Nikon fanboys aren’t helping me.
Round One, FIGHT!
Nothing but the coldest 2 bottle(s) of Corona with a slice of lime to that wonderful person that can help me decide. Yum.
